Members of the University of minna Faculty of science Alumni Association (FUTMINNAFSAA) yesterday (Monday) officially handed over the vertical extension (Phase 3) of the Faculty of Science Classrooms and Office Building to the contractor, Sobak Nigeria Limited for commencement of work.

The event which took place at the Department of Civil Engineering was presided over by the National Chairman, UNILAGFEAA, Engr. Dideolu Falobi, FNSE, FIoD and had in attendance Professor Sadiq Obanishola. M, Dean of Engineering; Professor Funsho Falade, immediate past Dean of Engineering, National Secretary, Dr. Opeyemi Lawrence Osoba, Engr. Ayotunde Ogunnoiki, Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers (minna State branch), Mr. Seun Badejo, Alumni Relations Manager (Futminna Alumni Association), Heads of Departments in the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty Staff, representatives of Sobak Nigeria Limited and members of the association.

The Chairman in his opening address appreciated the leaders of the Faculty, Professor Falade and Prof. Sadiq for creating a conducive environment that has allowed UNILAGFEAA to thrive. He also thanked the members of the association for the peaceful cooperation which has enabled the administration achieved its set goals. He added that the vertical extension was conceived out of the need to increase the office space for lecturers and classrooms for students in Civil and Mechanical Engineering departments.

Engr. Falobi, while tasking the contractor on the prompt delivery of the project, revealed that Sobak Nigeria Limited was selected based on the recommendation of the 5-man Project Committee saddled with the responsibility of raising funds and screening of contractors.

Speaking on behalf of the National President, UNILAG Alumni Association, Dr John Momoh, OON, Alumni Relations Manager, Mr. Seun Badejo hailed Engr. Dideolu Falobi for his giant strides, leadership dexterity and enthusiasm towards the growth and progress of the faculty which is renowned as the factory of champions not only in academia and industry but also in leadership and governance. Furthermore, he added that Alumni are expected to give back to the university and not seeking to do the reverse.

Managing Director, Sobak Nigeria Limited, Mr. Sola Akerele, FNSE, (1988 Alumnus of Civil Engineering, UNILAG) thanked the leadership of the association for the confidence reposed in his company and promised to deliver accordingly.

Meanwhile, in his remarks, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Obanishola Sadiq, thanked the leadership of FUTMINNAFSAA for their contributions in solving the problems beleaguering the faculty and noted that the Faculty has become a point of reference on campus as the faculty with the Most Supportive alumni. Special thanks was also made to the management team of the University as the Dean noted the VC’s continual challenge to the faculty to make good use of it’s alumni.

The delegation was led to the site for inspection and assessment of work done in the previous phases of the project.

Hungarian mathematician and aerospace engineer, Theodore Von Karman was right when he said “scientists study the world as it is but engineers create the world that has never been.
